January 2002 Committee Minutes |
The meeting was called to order at 7:39 p.m. by co-chair Shawn Sather.
ATTENDANCE: Greg Cannon, Cathy Cunningham, Debbie Dubay, Leigh During,
Rosemary Gilligan, Carol Ham, Gabe & Katie Hanzeli, Pete Logar,
Dick
Maloney, Kathy Morey, Don Morris, Carl Prichard, Eddie Rogers, Shawn
Sather, and Ken Wright,
MINUTES: The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted with one
correction. Thank you to Kathy Morey for taking notes.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Reported by Carol Malama. The beginning
balance
as of 5 December 2001 was $13,820.11. There was $629.00 in
income.
Expenses were $884.27, mostly for the Super Outing. The ending
balance
was $13,564.84. $5,800.00 of the ending balance is for the
Super
Outing. There was little activity this month. Mrs. Malama
has the
information to get the new signatures for the checks. Our new
treasurer, beginning in March, will be Lori Healy. There were ideas
presented as a way to use our extra funds. We could give money to boys
in a work-for-gear program up to a fixed amount. We could donate some
to a new troop to help them start up. We also may need some money for
patches if we don't reach our FOS goal.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Summer Camp: Reported by Don Morris.
Our deposit for the summer's trip
to Camp Parson has not yet been paid
because John Monday hasn't yet
received the notice. Scout deposits are
due in March and May.
Mountaineers' Lodge: The money for our
annual Mountaineers' Lodge
outing hasn't yet been paid.
Woodcutting: There is less than one cord at Mr.
Brooten's. There is
maple at the Hanzeli's which needs to be inspected
for quality.
Friends of Scouting: Reported by Shawn
Sather: We are halfway to our
troop goal. We have received about
$2,100.00 Twenty people have turned
in their pledge cards. There
are flyers in the green box.
Scouting for Food: Reported by
Carl Prichard. He needs the Round Table
dates for this month.
The date is Thursday, 10 January at 7:15 p.m.
Youth Protection:
The video will be shown 29 January 2002.
Mom & Me:
This is being coordinated by Carol Ham and Pete Berg.
Welcome:
Chris Saunders is leaving, so we need a new volunteer for this
position. We will make an announcement at the log this evening.
Scoutline: Per Katie Hanzeli, there is no report.
TLC: Reported by Ken Wright. The goal is to have three
months of
meeting plans completed. There are about 1 1/2 to 2
months worth now.
Chris Rothschilds (SPL) is getting trained.
There were two groups at
the last TLC, one for the younger boys then an
older boys group to build
on the younger boys ideas. There are two
levels of planning. Parents
are needed to wander through and help as
needed. Patrol advisors could
help. If the kids default on
meeting plans, then the troop suffers.
The TLC meeting is usually the first
Tuesday of the month. Also
discussed were ways of supporting and
helping the SPL's and PL's with
the other boys coming or going from a
position. Mr. Brooten's help is
desired.
Activity
Book: Reported by Pete Logar. He is working on a new format.
Uniforms: Per Katie Hanzeli, there is no report.
H.O.M.E. (Homeless Outreach Mobilization Effort) Reported by
Katie
Hanzeli. Mrs. Hanzeli would like a volunteer to coordinate this
biannual service project. A description of the job was given.
There were no reports for Advancement, Transportation, Firewood Sales,
Chartered Organization, Round Table, Scheduling, Troop Guide or Outings.
SCOUTMASTER'S REPORT: Given by Shawn Sather
Parents are
needed for the igloo outing, especially on Sunday night and
Monday.
There will be an inspection on Tuesday, 15 January, for any
boys who haven't
ever gone. There are a limited number of snowshoes -
first come, first
served. Email Mr. Brooten if you want a pair or get
your own. On
16th or 17th January, Mr. Brooten will let people know if
the outing will be
held at Paradise or Snoqualmie.
Parents are encouraged to go to the
Woodbadge Clinic Memorial Day weekend.
OUTING REPORTS:
H.O.M.E. Reported by Katie Hanzeli.
Both evenings of serving the
homeless men of Southeast King County went very
well. Two more dates
will be scheduled for April 2002.
Snowshoe Outing: It was great. It was cold. The pie was
good.
Polar Bear Swim: It was great. It was cold. Mr.
Cannon lost a bet
because he didn't jump.
OTHER BUSINESS:
It was suggested that we recruit volunteers for
various jobs. It would
be nice if other parents in the troop
participated in some way. We can
use email and the website to
advertise. Should we get a volunteer
coordinator to oversee this?
