Ham, Katie
Hanzeli, Dave Heutchy, Peter Hwang, Dahni Logar, Dick & Susan
Maloney,
Kathy Morey, Shawn Sather, Susan Staton, Ken Wright, and Doug
Wollen.
MINUTES: The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as
written.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Reported by Dave
Heutchy. The beginning balance as
of 16 January 2001 was
$7,393.76. Income was $6,551.00, mostly from
Super Outing and
Summer Camp deposits. Expenses were $2,769.45, mostly
for the
Mountaineersí Lodge payments and Super Outing deposits. The
ending
balance as of 7 March 2001 was $11,175.31.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Scouting For Food: Reported by Dave
Heutchy. Mr. Heutchy explained the
SOF procedures. There is a
hole in leadership. Hal Snyder can no
longer be chairman, and so this
is being run by committee. A chair
person is needed. Bob
Rothschilds will manage the bag distribution this
weekend. Brian
Easton is also helping. Our area is near lake
Meridian. We are
sharing the area with another troop. The boys should
participate
in at least one weekend. Adult drivers are needed. It
will
begin at 9:00 am both mornings and will take about two hours.
Summer Camp: Reported by Dave Heutchy. A chair person is
needed. A
deposit is due to the council soon. Ciaran Nienow
suggested that the
boys wear a troop T-Shirt designed by the troop to help
us look more
respectable. Walkie talkies were also suggested to help
with
communication. Four would be good, two for adults and two four
the
boys. Mr. Maloney is willing to loan his four.
Adult Leader Training: Reported by Dave Heutchy. Parents who are
or
will be helping out with the troop in any way should attend. It is
good
training. There are four sessions: 31 March, 4, 11 April
and the
overnighter is 20 & 21 April. Mr. Heutchy has application
forms.
Welcome: Reported by Dave Heutchy. There will be an introductory
session for new boys next week, on 20 March. On 27 March, Chris
Saunders will do a new parents meeting to go over how the troop works
and answer questions. If there is enough demand, more sessions will be
added in April or May. All new parents should pick up a copy of the
Skull and Crossbones book. A suggestion was made that parents in a
patrol get together and work out who can provide or buy what equipment
so that not everyone has to have everything.
Tyke Hike: This hike for
new boys is usually held in July.
There will be one prepatory outing
and then a four or five day hike.
The boys will cover two thirds to
three quarters of the requirements for
Tenderfoot, Second Class and
First Class ranks. There will be more information about this at the 27
March meeting.
Soutline: Reported by Katie Hanzeli. The purpose was explained
and the
number given out.
Advancement: Reported by Dave Heutchy. There will be a lot of
merit
badges at the next COH due to the Merit Badge Clinic.
Transportation: Reported by Dave Heutchy. The purpose of this
committee was explained.
Uniforms: Reported by Katie Hanzeli. Shorts are needed.
Suggestions
made were to check Penney's on line and at the Scout Shop, which
had
$5.00 shorts last fall. Scarves are given when the Scouts reach
the
Tenderfoot rank. Big Foot has fleece on sale at 70% off. Try
G.I.
Joe's in the spring for good bargains.
Wood Cutting: Reported by Doug Wollen. There was a good cutting
session at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on 10 March. One third
of the wood there was cut. The church would like the rest of it gone
and so a second session may be scheduled sooner than fall. We had good
equipment to get the job done. Thank you to the donor.
Mr.
Heutchy explained the Troop Support and the wood cutting tie in.
The current
price is $130.00 per cord plus a charge for stacking.
Friends of Scouting: Reported by Shawn Sather. We met our troop
goal
and then some. We now get our cloth badges for free this
year. We
still have seven cards that need to come back. The
forms are in folders
in the green box. We would like 100%
participation.
Youth Protection Coordinator: Reported by Dave Crowell. We should
do
this in May or June after most of the new boys have joined.
Roundtable: Reported by Dahni Logar. Mrs. Logar has the Scouting
For
Food bags and Camporee information She explained the volunteer
sign
ups. Roundtable meets the second Thursday each month at 7:15 pm
to 9:00
pm at the LDS building next door. The mail needs to be picked
up each
time. The volunteer can stay for sessions if desired. A
sheet for the
rest of the year to sign up to help was passed around.
Mom & Me: Reported by Dave Heutchy: This event was explained
in answer
to a question.
Website: Reported by Doug Wollen. The site is being set up.
Please
see Mr. Wollen's laptop at troop meetings. He would like some
feedback. He hopes it will be more useful over time. There are
permission slips to have e-mail on the public page and to post pictures
without names - a BSA rule. He hopes to have a password protected page
with the full roster, etc. Look for all this in the upcoming week.
PLC: Reported by Ken Wright. The new Senior Patrol Leader is
Cameron
Cowles. He ran an excellent meeting last week, and there were
no
discipline problems. Good things are expected. Mr. Wright
gave Cam
some ideas.
Scheduling: No issues.
OUTINGS
Merit Badge Clinic: They went well.
Crater
Lake: Reported by Dave Heutchy: This outing will be held on 16
-
21 April, over Spring Break. Six boys and Four adults are coming.
There were four preliminary outings so far and Dandy Pass is this
weekend. The boys need to bring a twenty pound pack. An
overnighter is
coming up.
H.O.M.E. (Homeless Outreach Mobilization
Effort). Reported by Katie
Hanzeli. This springís biannual Good
Turn will be held on 27 April,
8:30 pm - 10:00 pm at Unity Church in Kent.
SCOUTMASTER'S REPORT
Mr. Brooten has two walkie talkies.
There is a ìCamping Gearî video tape missing. Mr. Brooten would
like
to get a copy back so he can digitize it and put it on CD.
Adult Leader Training is coming up. As many adults as possible
should
attend.
He has volunteers who would do a Scout
meeting. There is one man who
ran an underground Scout troop in 1938
Communist Yugoslavia and another
person who does rubber band airplanes.
There were no reports for Chartered Organization, Firewood Sales,
Activity, or Patrol Parent Coord.
