MINUTES: The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as written.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Carol Malama is on vacation. Mr. Heutchy gave
the
report. The beginning balance as of 10 April 2001 was $13,280.31.
Income was $5,640.50, mostly from Summer Camp. Expenses were
$8,602.00,
mostly for Summer Camp. The ending balance as of 10 July
2001 was
$10,318.81. There are still a number of Summer Camp items to
be
resolved. Per Mr. Morris, it is close to being done.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Advancement: Reported by Gary Bruno. At
camp this year, 55 Scouts
participated. 139 merit badges were earned,
plus 39 partials, 9 of
which were for swimming which had 2 new
requirements. The most badges
earned by an individual Scout were 7 by
Aaron Thomas. 28 different
merit badges were earned. The most
were earned in Fingerprinting. The
“Advancement Team” now has two new
assistants: Ken Wright and Ken
Peterson. Counselors are still
being recruited. We have 28 parents
from this troop who are acting as
counselors, which is only one third of
available parents.
Summer
Camp: Reported by Don Morris. A good time was had by all. Many
boy leaders came of age this season. Thank you to all parents.
We had
the largest number of boys participating ever. The paperwork
sailed
through. Mr. Morris says, “Thanks!” We had two campsites and
the folks
at Parson’s shuffled so our two sites were next to each
other. This was
Mr. Brooten’s first year of attending camp all
week. Three adults
stayed all week: Mr. Gunderson, Mr. Monday,
and Mr. Brooten. There
were low adult numbers at the beginning of the
week. Next year, Summer
Camp will be the third week of
July. We are signed up.
Transportation: Reported by Mike
Thompson. There were plenty of
drivers for camp, which made it very
easy. There are outings the next
two weekends, and then the 50
miler. An announcement will be made if
there are any needs. Mr.
Thompson is looking at the car needs for the
Tyke Hike which leaves
tomorrow. There are a large number of boys
going.
Uniforms:
Reported by Katie Hanzeli. New uniforms (seconds) were
purchased cheap
at the Scout Shop and are in the box. If anyone sees
old uniforms in
the thrift stores, buy them for the troop box and the
troop will reimburse
you.
Woodcutting: Reported by Don Morris. St. John the Baptist
Church has
wood still waiting for us to cut and/ or haul away. We
can’t get there
before September. We need to set dates. Six
cords of wood have been
pre-sold. There are also Eagle Project ideas
there.
Youth Protection: Reported by Dave Crowell. We will
plan a date in
September to show the films.
Welcome: Reported by
Chris Saunders. Nothing to report.
Website: Reported by Dave
Heutchy. New things keep coming up. Some
people are having
trouble downloading stuff just recently. A suggestion
was made to link
a contact with the webmaster if problems arise. The
email should
already be there. Does that work?
TLC: Reported by Ken
Wright. There was a TLC two weeks ago. Two
Scouts came, so they
talked about planning ahead. Cameron will
reschedule another TLC,
perhaps for next week. Cameron has earned a lot
of respect from the
boys; he’s serious and treats them with respect.
Scoutline: Reported
by Katie Hanzeli. Call Mrs. Hanzeli if you’d like
information put on
Scout Line or to check for outing return times.
There were no reports for Firewood Sales, Friends of Scouting, Scouting
for Food, Chartered Organization, Mom & Me, Round Table, Scheduling,
Patrol Parents, or Troop Guide Coordinator.
SCOUTMASTER’S REPORT
Tyke Hike: Begins tomorrow. Menus, grub
masters, drivers are all set.
Ten adults are going, forty-five total.
It is hard to find camp sites
that will take such large numbers. All
boys should have gotten a
packing list, but some are having trouble opening
attachments.
50 Miler Preps: There are two: 27 - 29 July and 3 -
5 August. The
boys need to sign up for the 50 Miler and attend one or
both prep
outings. The Tyke Hike boys can do it. It would be
difficult for small
boys to carry a large pack with food, etc.
Rainier
Climb: This outing will end the year. We will brainstorm about
outings for the upcoming year at the end of August.
Summer Camp:
It went well. Several boys were invited to be a CIT
(Counselor in
Training) and staff members. It was a different
experience for Mr.
Brooten. No hiking! There were lots of merit badges
and
awards. The Tyke Hike will repeat some activities. It will give
the boys an opportunity to fully digest skills and to teach or reteach
them. The pictures that were sent home were great. Mr. Bellino
will
put them on a CD. Others also took pictures.
Woodcutting: See previous discussion. Could we simply reduce the
size
of the logs at St. John and haul to Mr. Brooten’s for a more convenient
splitting time? We will try on 26 July, Thursday. Meet at 5:00
pm at
St. John’s. Come asap, or whenever you can. Bring chain
saws, trucks,
etc. There will be no splitting, just removal. Mr.
Morris will talk to
Mr. Maricich.
Scoutmasters’ Conferences: Lots
of boys need a conference. If they are
not completed tonight, then
they will overflow to the Tyke Hike.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Volunteers: Volunteers are needed for the
positions of Troop Treasurer
and Scouting for Food.
