TREASURER’S REPORT: Reported by Carol Malama. The beginning

of 7 March 2001 was $11,175.31. Income was $2,105.00, mostly
from
Summer Camp deposits. There were no expenses. The ending
balance as of
10 April 2001 was $13,280.31. We owe a reimbursement to Don Morris,
who
paid the Summer Camp deposit to the Council. A Super Outing payment
is
also coming up.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Summer Camp: Reported by Dave Heutchy. We have received
money from
all theboys for available slots. We have space for 35 boys and 6
adults. We can handle 40 boys. Can we add more? We
could possible
share a site with another troop, combine with a smaller troop, etc.
There may be more room if anyone drops out. We are in Turner
this year.
Uniforms: Reported by Katie Hanzeli. We need shirts.
We will
reimburse anyone for purchases made for the uniform box.
Woodcutting: Reported by Dave Heutchy. There is still wood
at St. John
the Baptist Catholic Church. We sold four loads last time.
More
discussion was deferred.
Scouting For Food: Reported by Dave Heutchy. Bob Rothschilds
and Brian
Easton ran it this year for the two weekends. The boys picked
up around
900 items which is a pretty good collection. We need a chair
for 2002.
Welcome: There was a New Parent Orientation last week.
A film was
shown about equipment. The new parents liked it.
Scoutline: Reported by Katie Hanzeli. Call Mrs. Hanzeli
if you’d like
information put on Scout Line. Mr. Heutchy explained other means
of
troop communication: the website, white signup book, Skull &
Crossbones, the green mail box.
Youth Protection: Reported by Dave Crowell. The Youth Protection
video
will be shown on Tuesday, 15 May at 7:00 pm at St. James. There
is a
two hour presentation for adults then a 1/2 hour film for kids.
Joyce
Froisland, from Council will present the film. It covers situations
boys may encounter. The boys will see the film with their parents’
permission.
Advancements: Reported by Gary Bruno. “This job is fun!”
says Mr.
Bruno. It is an opportunity to get to know the kids and the parents.
We are invited to come and chat. We now have the software “Troop
Master
2000”. We will be able to transfer records directly to council.
Hopefully it can be used for recharter.
About 100 merit badges were earned at the Merit Badge Clinic.
Two
scouts received Horsemanship. Merit badges can be earned anytime
but
the major focus is after the 1st Class rank. Check the website
for
counselors and merit badges.
Mr. Bruno is thinking about a quarterly newsletter with a “Merit
Badge
of the Month”. The goal is to pump up interest in merit badge
work,
especially with the unusual ones.
The Court of Honor is Tuesday, 8 May 2001. The potluck
begins at 6:30
pm. Bring food and utensils. The COH begins at 7:30 pm.
There will be
outing reports and a slide show.
Website: Reported by Dave Hutchinson. The website is very
impressive.
The troop roster was recently added. It is an encrypted file.
Click
the link and give the password. For security purposes, the password
is
not listed here. Please see Doug Wollen for it. Hopefully,
outing
signup sheets will be added by the next meeting. It can’t be
done right
now. A hard copy will still be available at meetings for those
without
internet. The leader of the outing will be responsible for coordinating
the hard copy with the website. As of this afternoon, the site
has had
311 visitors. Permission slips are still needed for
email link for
leaders and for photos without names to be published.
PLC: Reported by Ken Wright. Cameron is doing well as SPL.
Mr. Wright
has a book to suggest to him. Mr. Hanzeli and Mr. Brooten are
also
working with him.
Outing Planning: Reported by Dave Heutchy. There are checklists
in the
signup notebook. A couple of recent outinga missed some things
from
the checklist. The boys must be diligent. Parents should
be aware of
the requirements if your boy is heading an activity. The list
is also
on the website.
Troop Guide Coordinator: Reported by Dave Heutchy. John
Monday
volunteered for this position. He is also the acting Scoutmaster
at
summer camp this year.
There were no reports for Transportation, Firewood Sales, Friends
of
Scouting, Chartered Organization, Mom & Me, Round Table, Scheduling
or
Patrol Parents.
OUTINGS
Scouting For Food: Reported by Dave Heutchy. It went really
well this
years since it was run by committee.
Crater Lake: Reported by Dave Heutchy: A couple of preparatory
outings
have been held in the last month. Dandy Pass was very wet.
There was 1
1/2 inches of rain at 4100 feet while they were there. This was
Mr.
Heutchy’s “Most Miserable Outing.” They took a wrong road, too.
The
boys did well. There was an overnighter two weeks ago at Lake
Louise
and they tried the skins. There was no trouble. This coming
Monday,
they will be leaving for Crater Lake. They are getting lots of
snow
there now. Four boys and three adults are signed up to go.
Ape Caves: Reported by Dick Maloney. It was fun and the
kids were
great. There were about 30 kids and 10 adults. It snowed.
They had a
snowball fight. There was no rain or snow during the campout.
Adult Leadership Training: There is at least one adult attending.
OTHER BUSINESS:
T-shirts: Reported by Katie Hanzeli. Kieran Nienow would
like an adult
to spearhead the ordering of summer camp t-shirts. Mrs. Malama
suggested that the troop airbrush their own. Another idea was
to have
Kathy Nelson of Dugan’s come and present ideas to the boys. Another
idea was to have a generic troop t-shirt that can be adjusted according
to the event or outing. Mrs. Malama will talk to Kieran and Mrs.
Hanzeli will talk to Mr. Brooten about the ideas.
Survivor Outing: Reported by Ken Wright. There are troop
rumblings
about having a survivor outing for the older boys. He is looking
at
July and August. A merit badge can be earned. It is an
advanced outing
and it can challenge them. The boys have to fend for themselves
for a
night. Some classes can be done ahead and then off they go.
If they
come out alive, they get the badge. We need a place to do it,
where the
boys can cut trees for making shelters.
Volunteers: Volunteers are need for the following troop positions:
Summer Camp Coordinator, Scouting for Food Coordinator, and Activity
&
Sign-up Book Coordinator.
